[ Suffice to say, Hua Cheng is not happy right now.
For as much as he would like to stay by Xie Lian's side at all times, there are moments where they do split up to deal with their own affairs. But usually, usually, they see each other throughout the day regardless of what their business is.
He has not seen Xie Lian once. Not in passing, not in seeking him out. And it's very obvious that he is scouring the entire station at the moment for signs of - something.
Unsurprisingly, #1 Ruoye walker, Usagi Tsukino noticed her favorite person and bandage buddy was missing when she was out looking for company? Along with her other favorite person (aND HER ROOMMATE), it isn't a wonder why she's also searching high and low for any signs of all three of them (sorry occhan) ]
Ah!
[ she blanks out on his name but at least she recognizes Hua Cheng as someone who hangs out with Xie Lian a lot. Which is why she immediately hurries over, looking increasingly distressed. ]
Have you seen Xie Lian-san today? I've been looking for him...
[ Irritable and radiating it, Hua Cheng - stops, turning to look at Usagi and her big eyes and her distress. Because at least he's not alone in trying to find Xie Lian, but, also, he really does not like that no one has seen him. ]
No. [ The frustration is obvious, but even for someone that's usually all intimidating airs it's kind of obvious that the frustration is his own distress. ] No, not since this morning. I've been looking for him, as well.
[ One really just has to appreciate the image of Usagi, small yet so unafraid, looking up Hua Cheng in the midst of a rather valid snit without any fear in her eyes. That being said she frowns at his reply, fingers absently clutching the locket at her chest tightly. Where on earth could they have gone......? This place isn't particularly big enough to vanish completely like this. ]
I've looked everywhere but maybe I missed him.....?
[ She doubts it. Even with her powers sealed Xie Lian always has a certain presence to him. ]
[ Honestly, it's a little hard to be scared of someone when they're so damn forlorn and lost at the moment, once you get a good enough look at them. Usagi has rights.
But Hua Cheng draws in a breath, huffing it out in a humorless laugh. There are only so many places to go looking in the Realm, he's found, that it's strange he could be anywhere else. Not the village, not the station. ]
The only thing I've not done is turn the place upside-down.
[ Still. He inclines his head slightly. Be calm. It'll be fine. It will be. ]
[ She'll get there before too long, we're sure. She just has that ability.
But, for now, he raises his eyebrows when she slips up like that. It certainly wouldn't be the first time! He's made like, six jokes about only having one eye since he was kidnapped. ]
[ You know, Hua Cheng came here with every intent of speaking to the leaders? But he has the strange sensation that he's not alone - and not in the same way that comes with a leader about to pop out of nowhere. Just that there's... someone here.
His boots jingle with his silver charms and bells, making him intentionally known. And he is coming. Closer. To the stairs. From this angle. ]
[ thank goodness usa's spent enough time around mr jingle jangle to recognize those bells, but she doesn't move from where she's positioned, far too caught up in staring at what is slowly becoming a familiar galaxy of stars. she's a little lost in her head, this bunny, trying to take comfort where she can find it after that horrific display.
As he comes across where she's settled, Hua Cheng huffs a soft noise, moving to stand and look at the stars that she's got her eyes on. He's quiet for a moment, as he tucks his surface emotions neatly away so that it's just a faint note, now, of a stormy, dangerous something made temporarily harmless by distance. ]
[ her own are a jangled disaster of a mess, swirling between confusion, hurt and pain- yet not for herself. to see something so horrifying....... well, it certainly makes for a mess of emotions. not even the peace of the stars can calm her now. ]
Do you think it gets easier.....? To watch someone get chosen week after week while we're trapped here?
[ Unlike so many people here, Hua Cheng is more or less unfazed by it. It's more... agitating, when they're wrong, when they haven't caught someone. He hates losing.
But there's so many people here that shouldn't have to watch people they've come to know die in new ways every week. ]
That's not something you should want to get easier.
[ looks away from my pile of tags but where is our friendly neighborhood ghost today? usagi's doing her usual day 1 poke of the new area, nervously checking to make sure nothing wild is gonna pop out like it did last time? that's exactly why she's frowning at these super sus orbs all over the place.
[ Those orbs sure are sus!!! This is actually one of my few Monday memshares I'm crying, Jesus,
Hua Cheng is avoiding those bubbles, because he doesn't want to know what they do, and does see Usagi doing much the same. He's... squinting, a little bit, apparently displeased by the amount of wild west sunlight. ]
Try not to touch them, Usagi. Let someone find out what they do.
[ it's fine. we're fine. we're definitely not a week late or anything ]
Hua Cheng-san!
[ her hair very narrowly misses hitting one when she jumps and whips around, clutching her chest. she can't even scold him for scaring the bejesus out of her because this is the one week he's valid enough to do so. she settles for making a face at the orbs instead ]
Have you ever seen something like this appear before...?
Careful. [ He learns about Halloween on Tuesday, it'll be great. Scaring everyone until, you know, there's no humor to be found in much come Friday. ] Not precisely this, but it's not the strangest thing I've seen, in the Realm or back home.
[ Stepping around a cluster, he comes closer to her. ]
[ poor hc, his halloweentown dreams dashed by this realm. usagi giggles, however, because honestly same? ]
Mm, it's odd, isn't it? Even I can say I've seen strange things before but even this is a first-
[ she's sweeping her cowboy skirt out of the way like it'll help while doing a slight step back him but I hope neither of them realizes that she immediately steps on one. almost immediately a memory (p39- 47,p6) sparks swirling up and around them ]
Hua Cheng is jarred by the change in scenery, but it's - fine. The disorienting sensation will pass, once he... watches... the memory?
Not necessarily what he would've expected out of Usagi, to be honest. Everything seems very, very simple with her, so watching people apparently melt is whiplash from what he knows about her. ]
... Usagi. [ hey what the fuck? not the weirdest thing he's personally seen by a longshot, considering, but also ]
[ Hey Usagi where are you, Hua Cheng is actually specifically looking for you. The ominous jingling of his boots rings clearly as he strolls, no bothering to mute his steps any like an outside cat that learned to navigate past its collar tags. ]
[ she's curled up on the beach somewhere, absently wandering between spacing out and crying periodically. it seems like losing precious people week after week has finally taken a heavy toll out of this bun.
at least, his jingling has become a relatively familiar sound to her and she blinks blearly eyes in the direction he's strolling from.
[ Comfort thread #3, with the other two waiting in the wings, it's fine, we'll get there.
Hua Cheng finds Usagi facedown. There's silence for a moment, as he decides whether she's fine or not, and then walks away.
Ten minutes later, he comes back, dropping down to sit where she's faceplanted, a small clink of something next to her head. If she looks up, she'll find that it is... a giant bowl of ice cream! It's a like, probably supposed to be a serving bowl. But it has two spoons in it, and Hua Cheng looks at her expectantly. ]
[ sometimes you just need a pile of threads. it's fine we'll be here all year.
meanwhile, usagi just having cucked her own doki continues to ask the floor to swallow her whole. nevermind they're hours away from what can only be their final battle? it's fine she'll pull herself together by then. but for now, she's only half certain hua cheng just left her to vibe but the return steps and clink of china actually has her blinking up and-
