But there's so many people here that shouldn't have to watch people they've come to know die in new ways every week. ]

Then you have helped people. It's all well and good, to wish that you could help more - but even one person is still a person you've helped, and perhaps they'll pay the kindness forward.
Back home I would be able to protect them much easier than this; from evil who wished harm. Bad people who preyed on the defenseless. I guess... it's hard to know what I could have done if only I could-
